Track Day...
...the school year is winding down and with that comes a day of FUN! My kids love this day, but I think more than that their dad loves to go spend the day with them. This year he was in charge of the camera too since I was selling candy for the PTA (yes candy at the track day-that little bit of sugar really helps their performance). Greg said that the kids did really well and for sure we know that Jacey took 1st place in the ball accuracy and she thinks she got one more ribbon but wont find out until tomorrow. Dax had no idea...but they both had fun and Skye got in on the action too and everyone came home a little sun kissed and happy.

Happy Green Day...
...since my kids neither know or care what St. Patrick's Day is (honestly I wonder occasionally myself) they just know that if you aren't wearing green it is a bad thing, so we are going to start calling it green day. I had good intentions to make all things green to go all out, but they settled and where just fine with some green cookies and juice after school. Not my best effort on the holiday, but after the refusal to eat green pancakes a few years ago I am a bit leery to do much else.
Completely not related to green day, we had PTC today and since I had my class Dad filled in and went, and I got the report second hand this time. I know I have said it before but my kids are absolutely AMAZING!
Greg told Dax's teacher about his 9xs trick and how he just knew how to do it and she said she wasn't surprised. He got a 4 in math (4= Advanced, exceeds grade level/classroom standards). Mrs. Cranner is very impressed with his math skills. He also got a 4 in reading (the boy reads 69 wpm with 100% accuracy.) He got 3's in everything else (3=Meets grade level/classroom standards) and improved his writing. Good job Dax!
As for Jacey...we all know she is a good writer, so when her teacher says that she was the ONLY one in the whole class to get a 4 in writing we weren't really surprised, but her teacher went on and on about it. A few weeks ago Mrs. Mitton had the class write mock letters to the Mayor about the city, its needs and ideas for improvements. She said that Jacey's was so clearly written, and presented such good ideas that she wants to actually send it to the Mayor. Impressive huh?! Once I get my hands on this letter I will be sure to share it. The speed reader just keeps getting faster and faster too. She now reads over 200 wpm with 100% accuracy, 3rd graders goal by the end of the year is 120 wpm. She had brilliant grades straight through. Right on Jacey!
Now I am sure this next little blurp will cause some to think less of me, BUT I am going to say it anyways in my kids defense. AR goals are just silly! (for those of you who don't know what AR is, the kids read books they choose off a list that they can test on after they read it. The harder the book the more points they get.)
Jacey did not meet her AR goal this term and Greg and I both have been harping on her all term (we even got to the point of reward or punishment) but it just didn't work. Tonight I had a realization. The girl reads. She reads REALLY well. She reads books she wants to read. She can tell me all about the book when she is done with it. So, who cares if she didn't meet her goal. I am pretty sure Jacey met her goal last term by reading a bunch of "too easy for her" books just to say she meet her silly goal. The girl is reading Heidi right now and read The Secret Garden before that (I could be wrong, but I think they are both 4th but maybe even 5th grade reading levels), but they are not on the list so therefore she doesn't get credit for reading them. See what I mean, SILLY! Of course as her mom though, I want her to get good grades and AR is part of that, so I talked to her teacher (yes, I am one of those moms!) and she will get credit for EVERY book she reads as long as she writes a little report after she reads it. YAY! Everyone wins (hopefully) she can read what she wants, and still meet her AR goal!
While we are at it I also think "50 in a minuet" are silly too (these are math fact sheets that the kids try to do 50 in under a min.), and I am not saying that because my kids aren't good at them, because that is not true. My kids get very excited about passing one off, and I in turn get very excited for them, but what about those kids that can't do things under pressure, can't think that fast. I feel bad for them! It isn't like these "testings" are between the student and the teacher, no these tests are for the whole class to know about. I don't, but I could ask Jacey who in her class hasn't passed them off and she would be able to tell me. I know this because there are students in her class that are ahead of her (which again I am just fine with) and she knows that they are so it is safe to assume she also knows which kids are behind her. SO WHAT! Maybe I am putting too much thought into this, maybe the kids really honestly don't care or "pick on" other kids like they did when I was in school, but if things are still like they were when I was in school, kids don't need to be compared to each other. Education (in my humble opinion) is individual and between that student, their parents, and the teacher (PERIOD-DOT-DASH)
Okay rant over.
I LOVE OES, I love the faculty/volunteers there, and feel so blessed that my kids are getting the wonderful education that they are! Just want to make sure that is clear, and perhaps I just need to learn more about these programs.

Gotta Brag...
...if you don't want to hear how completely awesome my kids are stop reading now!
The kids came home from school today with their report cards for the past term...yeah, pretty much my kids ROCK!
Jacey's teacher says "Jacey is doing well in all areas. She is a great writer and just moved up to the forth grade level on fluency. Keep up the good work!" To elaborate just a little...Jacey has always been an amazing reader she astounded her kindergarten teacher when she was asked to "try" to read a book they would be starting in the next term, and she flew through it. I believe the direct quote was something like "Oh wow, I didn't know she could read like that!" Well by the end if the school year 3rd graders should be reading 120 words per minute fluently. Jacey surpassed that goal the first time she tested in August she read 130 (grade average = 88) She is now reading 172 words per minute fluently. Go Jacey! I wish I could say she got straight A's but all of us with kids know that they use numbers now...how lame! She did get straight 3's (the highest grade given). She is so excited to ROCK THE HALLS tomorrow for reaching her AR goal. She was the first one in her class to reach her goal! ROCK ON JACEY!
Dax is also amazing! He improved in 6 areas which does not mean he did bad last term, he just did that much better this term. His teacher gives out very few 4's and he got 3 of them. The rest of his grades were straight 3's with the exception of writing...we will blame his gender for that one for now, but will most likely be working on that this term. His teacher did not leave a comment on his report card, but I am sure she would agree that he is a smart kid who tries really hard to do everything the best that he can! Dax also gets to ROCK THE HALLS tomorrow and can't wait! ROCK ON DAX!

Randomness...
...because that is who we are, a little random!
Last night was the OES Fall Carnival/80's night and I don't know what is the saddest part 1) that we found out 1 hour before we left that we were supposed to dress up and we still pulled out some pretty rad outfits out of our closets and drawers. 2) or how much fun I had doing my hair and make up. I even heard myself say "hang on it isn't quite big enough yet". I think the funniest part of the getting ready process was while I was doing Dax's hair Jacey walked in all do-ed up and Dax said "Whoa, Jacey you look WICKED!!" Greg and I have NOT used "wicked" for at least 2 decades so don't even ask me where he came up with that one.
My mom has this legendary Halloween decoration that is by far the most annoying thing ever, but cute at the same time. The grands love it and because they do love it so much it is annoying. It is a little pumpkin that when you push the button it giggles and vibrates. So why this random thought? Well it was almost Colt's be time and he was in a super silly mood and I finally caught his belly laugh on film and it reminded me of that decoration in the all cute and not even a tiny bit annoying sense and I had to share!
I don't know about your kids but mine LOVE to watch videos on the blog, but I HATE that after the video it would show other videos. Let's face it not every video on youtube is kid friendly so rather than skipping out on posting the videos I had my genius husband show me how to make them not show up, and funny enough...it really wasn't hard at all. Once you upload your video click on the link at the top (it says something like "your video will be live in just a moment at ...." click on that then under your video click on "Embed" and unclick the "include related videos" then copy and paste that embed code onto your blog. Easy Peasy.
So, yay I found my camera so I can finally get some video of the kids riding in WY up soon.

They Are OFF!
...and the fun begins for another year in school. I am not sure how Skye, Colt and I will survive the days without our buddies, but somehow I think we will survive.
Dax is in 1st grade and is excited for all day school because "now I get to have recess EVERYDAY" where in K he only got it once a day if he was lucky. He gets to have breakfast and lunch at school too, and has promised to try everything and eat really well (I think I still better have some snacks ready when he gets home)
looking at that picture above makes my back hurt and the inner mother in me say "good posture, buddy" the poor kids had HEAVY backpacks today with all the school supplies they had to take today might be the only day (minus the last day of school) that the bulk of his bag is used. He is my little superman, and I LOVE this little kid!
Oh aren't they just the CUTEST school kids in the whole world?!
Jacey is a lot excited for 3rd grade because "I don't know, I just am". I think she was more excited for Dax to be in all day school than he was. She will be such a good big sister and show him everything he needs to know. She told me that she was really sad that Gracie wouldn't be on the bus with her today or in her class, but I know she will still have a blast!
my little cowgirl...I LOVE her forever!
with the chilly morning (only 46 right now an hour after this shot was taken) I had to get a shot with the golden sunshine coming up...not sure I am ready for cold yet, but then again Fall is my FAVORITE season...football games, coaching soccer, pumpkins, veggies from the garden and fruit from the trees...oh wait back to the first day of school...
and of course it would only be fitting that my kids almost miss the bus the first day of school. I swear I am always 10 min. early for EVERYTHING but for some reason I chased the bus in bare feet more often than I didn't and sometimes it was even bare footed through snow drifts. I got to chase my kids who were running to the bus because right after this picture Dax tripped and face planted (the only tears shed) I had to catch up and tell him that we live in Oakley and have the best bus driver in the world...she will wait for you little buddy you don't need to run so fast (especially with that heavy backpack)
So the only tears were from Dax UNTIL I started to write this blog post...oh man I miss my kids already! I guess that means I better go get busy so the day goes by faster. I can't wait to hear all about their first day of school!
